Guardian Scholars Program 

The Hartnell College Guardian Scholars Program (GSP) is committed to helping current and former foster youth; college-bound students complete their educational goals in areas such as: Associated Degree, Transfer, and Certificates by providing comprehensive support services.
Focusing on the needs of the Salinas Valley, Hartnell College and Guardian Scholars is dedicated in providing educational opportunities for students to reach academic, career, and personal goals in an environment committed to student learning, achievement, and success. 

Support Services

  • Free computer usage & printing 
  • Lending opportunities; textbooks, laptop, calculators
  • School supply assistance
  • Access to food pantry and vouchers
  • Connecting eligible students to additional programs; EOPS, TRIO, DSPS, etc.
  • One-on one mentorship
  • Tutoring Learning Lab Services (PLL)
  • Enrollment & Admission Assistance
  • Counseling & Academic Planning
  • Financial Aid Advisor Available 
  • College Grants for elegible foster youth 
  • Academic & Professional Development Workshops
  • Community referral


Students identified and upon verification as

  • Current or former foster youth 
  • On Admissions and Financial Aid applications
  • Be a current or prospective student at Hartnell College 

 students must 

  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units per semester 
  • Attend a minimum of 3 approved workshops per semester
  • Provide a schedule of courses per semester 
  • Submit mid-semester progress reports and report final grades 
  • Meet with an academic counselor and submit educational plan 
  • Willing to obtain Panther Learning Lab Services 
  • Participate in surveys for data collection
